Standard door handle height. The international building code provides a standard for a doorknob height. This is a 36 wide x 94 tall decorative wood entry door that is not a slab it has panels and glazing in specific areas. Installers typically drill the hole centered 36 inches above the floor if not specifically instructed to do so differently. Subsection 3 4 manual door hardware states that door handles should be at a minimum height of between 0 9 and 1 0 meters from the floor surface to provide a comfortable way for wheelchair users to open a door. Sub zero stainless steel door handles are typically mounted 1 1 2 from the handle side of the door or top of the drawer.
The door knob would sit at approximately 4 0 from the ground. If the door is used for an entrance to a swimming pool the doorknobs are however suggested to place 48 to 54 inches above the floor. Fortunately the standards for ada door handle height are not much different than traditional recommendations. Overlay panels must be a minimum of 5 8 thick to support mounting the handle.
This may vary slightly depending on the size and design of the door as well as the room where they will be installed.
